YOUTH GROUPS
Calvin Youth Groups promote faith-building and Christian service through weekly meetings during the school year, and mission experiences throughout the year - particularly in the summer.
The program is open to any student in grades 4 through 12, and currently includes three age-specific groups. The middle school group for grades 4 through 6 (CYG3) and grades 7 and 8 (CYG2) meet on Sunday evenings from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the church’s youth room (downstairs classroom). The high school group for grades 9 through 12 (CYG) meets on Sunday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, also in the church’s youth room (downstairs classroom). Bruce Smith is the Youth Director, and is assisted by college interns and adult volunteers. Meetings include a lot of open discussion, and students are encouraged to openly speak their convictions, feelings, ideas, doubts, and questions. Leadership opportunities exist for high school juniors and seniors to help with the younger group.
CYG MISSION TRIP TO CAMP WESTMINSTER IN MICHIGAN, AUGUST 2020
CYG has a multi-year tradition of summer mission trips, currently open to students who have completed grades 6 through 12, and have attended youth group meetings throughout the year (which serve as “training” for these work-based trips). We take an annual trip to Camp Westminster on Higgins Lake in Michigan: one week for grades 9-12, and another week for grades 6-8. Additional trips are sometimes planned later in the summer, as well as service opportunities throughout the academic year.
